I had a printer that was not working- the carriage was overshooting the margin and slamming into the right side of the printer on return. Jeff was very thorough, very pleasant and professional and returned our printer to good health. I appreciated his showing me exactly what he had done and telling me what to do in case his work did not totally solve the problem. I appreciated the timely manner in which Geek Housecalls returned our call regarding service and the fact that when Jeff was going to be late he called to let us know. I was extremely pleased with Andy. You guys were my third attempt to find someone good. He was great and very responsive when I had continuing issues. Small business computer skills made available to and priced for the home user, eg so many of us have networks now or are just moms like me with no tech help desk and we are floundering about using the kid down the street to troubleshoot when he's free etc. I liked the idea Andy knew about networks, hardware, software etc. I felt this was a real service, like the plumber or the interior decorator or the electrician, as opposed to a guy who just comes in that you pray has the skills. You might also make clear that you can consult on and install home networks, God knows I would have saved $ if I'd used you in the first place. Our problem was a difficult one, but Jeff persisted and solved it, it took quite a lot of time, but we were charged a very reasonable rate. Andy did a fine job. I would consider using you in the future, or referring to others. We were very pleased with Geek Housecalls' flexibility in scheduling the appointment given the many delays we experienced in receiving our printers. Josh was pleasant and professional. Geek Housecalls beat the service from my entire corporate IT department. They arrived within the hour during a driving rainstorm, quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it and got me back to work in record time. I was thoroughly satisfied, and would recommend you geeks to others. Our internet connection was dead and we couldn't get our 3 computers to consistently see each other on our peer-to-peer network. As the office tech person, it was almost as important to me that he explain things clearly to my supervisor as it was that he actually fix the problem. I found the opportunity to speak with the technician who will actually be working on my computer much more comforting than speaking with a desk clerk at a retail computer outlet who is just an order taker. My computer was freezing - Grace organized the software, checked and double checked some things and it has not stopped working since she left. I found working with Grace to be pleasant, informative and overall I am quite satisfied. Andy fixed the computer that had a virus and wasn't working. He ran the cable and networked a second computer into the cable service. He got all our email accounts up and running, downloaded more recent Microsoft free software, fixed my monitor, and best of all, taught me a heck of a lot. He was awesome. Andy installed a wireless network system to our three computers so that we could all simultaneously use the cable modem/internet. In a follow-up phone call the next morning he helped me resolve a glitch in my computer that had prevented me from connecting to the internet. I'm amazed that it took so long for an organization like Geek Housecalls to get established. Many of us who think we know something about computers are now trying to do more sophisticated things with our home computers and networks and need help getting them set up. Being able to call Geek Housecalls and know that you will get a pleasant, capable computer professional who will reliably show up on reasonably short notice and get the job done quickly and efficiently is a tremendous comfort when the computer or network acts up. Andy came to my home - he was very efficient, informative (i.e. I learnt something) and really made my computer work again (he added 128 MB memory expansion). My network problems also got solved. Best $200 odd I have spent on work related expenses and productivity. responsive, cost effective, friendly service! Roger was quick to remedy the problem I was having with our MAC, and made the effort to help me to better understand the machine. He answered questions I had about start up screens for my son. He was considerate of my wish to keep this older machine (and it's expensive resident software) available to my students, and pleasantly optimistic about his ability to find a way to save it. I am very happy with the result - a MAC with the ability to run school-funded software and simpler educational programs for my son and students! We're in the process of learning Quick Books and Michelle has input the information needed and has made it very clear and fairly simple so far to use. When you have trouble it's nice to know there's a Geek close by. Geek Housecalls is a superior firm for the small business sector - and we are a nonprofit, so our sector too. They are deeply knowledgeable, have excellent response time, good pricing and outstanding customer service. Calling the Geeks is much easier than unplugging everything and dragging it into a chain store where waits are long and service iffy. Extremely fast response to crisis situation - very friendly and helpful. Our pc was freezing or just going blank in the midst of working on documents/spreadsheets. Sue patiently examined for viruses then got down to looking at software that probably caused the pc (4yrs old) to become unstable. we agreed that the palm software recently installed was the culprit. Sue deleted a number of programs which were no longer needed and were just adding to the instability of our pc. Sue was very helpful in explaining and coaching us on the next things to try if freeezing occurs. Prompt; didn't make me feel like the stupidest person in the universe; made helpful suggestions to make my computer work more efficiently; helped me find the meaning of life. slow computer - Not that your computer is a slow computer, but that it's a fast computer running slowly. Many customers also report their computer as being slow when they mean the computer is slow to start up or slow to access the Internet when overall performance is otherwise normal. The typical request here is can we speed up the computer or make the computer faster? The good news of course is that we can!
Sluggish computer This is another slow computer description we often hear and is typically more characteristic of overall slow computer performance and can even take on the appearance of typing ahead of characters actually slowly appearing on the screen or the screen redrawing very slowly. Often, customers will report constant hard disk access and a crunching or churning noise. Sometimes this is a simple fix and indicates inadequate RAM memory in the system, but you really need a geek at your machine to diagnose whether it's something simple, or perhaps a bigger problem like a computer virus or computer spyware that's using a lot of system resources and leaving you with little processing power or memory to do what you want to do with your computer. Computer freezing - This is a computer problem that can indicate any number of possibilities including a computer hardware failure or malfunction such as bad RAM memory, a failing hard drive, or failed network card, video card or other add-on or embedded (on-board) device, or a plug-in device such as a USB memory card reader, scanner, printer, or USB hub. This could also be a mechanical or cooling failure such as a bad CPU fan, bad Case fan, bad Power Supply fan, or other critical system cooling fan that has stopped working and as a result, certain critical chips such as the CPU or video processor may overheat causing a sudden and inexplicable freeze. It could also be a computer software problem, a configuration error in hardware or software, or of course the old standby of a computer virus or computer spyware draining system resources. Geek Housecalls can fix these computer problems. Computer locking up - A computer lockup you might think, is the same as a computer freezing, but people actually knowingly (or perhaps unknowingly) distinguish between these two computer problems on the basis that a computer freeze usually indicates a complete loss of control with no course of action except to turn off the computer at the power switch or in extreme cases, to unplug it from the AC power. People often say their computer is locking up to mean that a particular software program or screen or other expected function doesn't work, but otherwise, the overall functionality or accessibility of the computer is still relatively intact. For example, a customer may report that his or her computer is locking up when he goes to a particular website and gets a blank screen or a server not found error but then can't close the window or shut down the program. Computer lockups of this sort tend to be recoverable and intermediate and advanced computer users will use the task manager to kill the errant task. Of course they may have the exact same lock up the next time they attempt the same operation. Although computer lock up, blank screens, and error messages that don't close are not unusual in even a smoothly working windows system, when a customer sees computer lock ups frequently, or if they have more than one computer and see the same operation working okay on one system and locking up on the other, then they are justified in suspecting that there's a more fundamental hardware problem, software problem, or windows problem at work on their system. This is when Geek Hosuecalls usually gets the call. Computer errors - Computer errors are a part of life, but don't always mean there's an error in the computer itself. In our broadly connected world, a computer error can certainly originate within the tower (as our customers often say), but can also originate outside the tower. For example, even a website that normally runs well can have a glitch or a server error at that time when you most want to get on the site. No matter how hard you try, you keep getting error messages from internet explorer that say server not found, or maybe the more cryptic "there's been an error on this page". You could be quick to blame your own computer or suspect that your internet explorer is broken or corrupted or loaded with computer viruses or computer spyware, but you could also miraculously find that tem minutes later everything is working normally again! On the other hand, sometimes the computer errors really are in your own system. In these cases, the error messages tend to be consistent or maybe consistently the same group of error messages, and they also tend to diplay at the same time. For example, problems with the windows registry or startup configuration or software that launches on system start up may result in error messages that repeat every single time you start or restart your computer. Error messages brought on by computer viruses or computer spyware may be more fundamental in nature and may crop up at specific times such as a DLL error when you try to open internet explorer or outlook express, or an error saying a task did not shut down properly when you are restarting windows. weird errors -

Of course there are some homes and some neighborhoods where wifi is not a viable option because of environmental factors that would make it too unreliable for even the most patient user, but for most of the home population, a wireless network is a good alternative to the expense of wiring. In addition to sharing the Internet connection, networked computers can also share printers and other devices, and can be set up to transfer files directly from one computer to the other without ever leaving your seat.
